Science Fiction is the genre best suited for ideas that challenge the status quo, because it is not bound by our reality as we know it. At the same time, SF has existed for long enough that it has become full of ossified paradigms that no longer force us to examine our perspectives. How do we keep our ideas relevant given the evolutionary nature of the genre while also dealing with the natural tendency of fiction to recycle cliches, frameworks, and touchstones that are familiar to us?
